Waiting for the birth of a child is one of the most exciting times in a parent’s life. During this time parents wonder a million things about their new baby, including gender, who it will look like and more. At Women’s Health Center of Reno, we use state-of-the-art ultrasound machines to provide a 3D Ultrasounds in Reno for our patients. Our sonographer is RDMS licensed and dedicated to making your experience enjoyable.

PLEASE NOTE: Best results for 3-D/4-D images are obtained at 26-28 weeks of gestation but 2-D recordings may be taken at any ultrasound visit. Our providers feel that it is wise to limit the ultrasound exposure to 30 minutes or less. Due to positioning and/or time constraints, the sonographer may not be able to get optimal face views at any particular visit, but will give you whatever she can record at the time of the visit.

On average most insurance companies only cover two ultrasounds; one in the first trimester (6-13 weeks) to get an accurate due date and the other in the second trimester (16-24 weeks) for the screening of the babies anatomy. 3D ultrasounds in Reno is not typically done at an anatomy scan because the clearest pictures are done around 30 weeks. Plus, 3D ultrasounds in Reno are not a medically necessary exam, so insurances are unwilling to pay for the “entertainment ultrasound.”

We recommend that patients schedule their 3D ultrasounds in Reno between 26-28 weeks of their pregnancy. The baby is developed at 16 weeks, but they are very small and not a lot of detail can be seen with the 3D ultrasounds in Reno. Later on in the pregnancy, about 26-27 weeks, the baby “fattens up” which make the features of the baby more detailed especially the face. After 28 weeks, things are getting a little crowded in the uterus and makes it difficult to get a clear view of the face.

No! It is highly recommended that you overly hydrate (drink more than you’re use to) the week before your 3D ultrasounds in Reno appointment. This ensures that the amniotic fluid will be adequate for optimal images, but you may use the restroom as many times as needed before, during, and after the ultrasound.

Yes! The pictures that show up on the screen are a sepia flesh tone color. We print out black and white copies for the expectant parents at the visit.

Babies’ faces sometimes appear to be pressed against the ultrasound transducer on the 3D ultrasound (do not worry this will not harm your baby) giving the nose a broader, flattened appearance. Other reasons would be a lack of adequate amniotic fluid, or the baby is positioned too close to the placenta or uterine wall. Our technician will attempt to obtain a 3D profile of the face will give parents a better idea of how the nose will look.
